Ecco un anteprima con il retrotreno completo (disco freno e corona con catena montati) é visibile anche il tubo del freno posteriore ma deve essere ancora sistemato. Le pedane passeggero e pilota sono state colorate in alluminio, quelle pilota purtroppo non ho potuto migliorarle perchè quelle MotoGP non erano compatibili.Ho montato anche lo scarico parzialmente pronto.. non ho applicato le decals carbonio ne le fascette. In foto è visibile pure la forcella anteriore con il relativo parafango, mentre per il manubrio, lo devo ancora dettagliare.

Molti dei pezzi sono attualmente in colorazione (forcelle, dischi freno...), intanto io ho fatto un montaggio del modello per continuare la costruzione dello scarico, e per fare ciò avevo bisogno di prendere alcuen misure. Dalla foto si possono notare il forcellone e il telaio che sono stati colorati per simulare il carbonio. Ho scartato immediatamente l'idea di applicare le decal perchèla zona era troppo ampia, per quel che riguarda il telaio, mentre per il forcellone, l'area non era ben delineata visto che è tutto un blocco con il parafango. Attualmente la carenatura non è colorata, è solo bianca dal primer, non l'ho colorata subito per non rovinarla durante queste fasi. Intanto il parafango anteriore, durante la verniciatura, ha presentato lo stesso problema descritto in precedenza e legato alla tipologia delle plastiche. Rimedierò con parecchie mani di primer.

SUZUKI GSX-R 600 K6 - EB project - step 10

Ed ecco il primo pezzo colorato. Devo dire che sono abbastanza soddisfatto del risultato.. questo blu è veramente molto liquido e ci vuole veramente poco perchè vada ad infilarsi sotto la mascheratura! Diciamo che però ho premuto sufficientemente nei bordi del nastro e posso tranquillamente darmi un bel 8 per il lavor svolto :)

Ora devo colorare i fanali, per farlo utilizzerò lo stesso sistema che ha utilizzato maisto, ovvero li coloro con del grigio/argento opaco, infatti tutta la fanaleria posteriore ha le i vetri delle luci bianchi.

Ecco i primi pezzi colorati con il bianco perlato (nello speicfico il TS45 di Tamiya). Un buon colore, facile da stendere e l'effetto perlato si vede (ok, non tantissimo nella foto). Ora aspetterò un altro giorno e poi procederò a mascherare il codone per fare la parte blu.

Nel ferattempo il motore è pronto, attendo solo i tubetti Evergreen (from UK) in plasticard per fare lo scarico..

SUZUKI GSX-R 600 K6 - EB project - step 8

Oggi ho lavorato sul forcellone posteriore, ho eliminato l'irrealistica corona e catena per far spazio a qualcosa di più definito e realistico. Purtroppo non è bastato eliminare la vecchia corona; per mettere quella nuova completa di catena, devo fresare il forcellone, ma questo è normale, in quanto il forcellone, nel punto di attacco al motore non è realistico. Quindi questa modifica dona anche un tocco in più di realtà al forcellone stesso. 

Osservando le foto della moto reale ho notato un particolare che non si vedeva tantissimo: parlo di due alette che sono attaccate al parafango anteriore e sono dietro alla forcella. Queste alette non sono presenti nel parafango del modello, quindi, con il solito plasticard, ne ho create due e le ho incollate dove dovrebebro essere nella realtà. Ora devo solo raccordare un po la parte posteriore del parafanfo stesso per farle sembrare realistiche.

SUZUKI GSX-R 600 K6 - EB project - step 7

Nello step attuale ho colorato i cerchi. Devo dire che ho avuto strane reazioni della vernice (sia primer che il colore blu), ho letto in qualche forum, di strane reazioni di certe plastiche con le vernici spray Tamiya.. di fatto quelle che ho utilizzato io! Non so se questo è il caso in cui rientrano anche i cerchi in questione, ma spero non sia così per tutto il modello!!! In questo caso il difetto è impercettibile, ma non lo sarebbe sulle carene del modello.

Il colore blù in questione è il TS50 Mica Blue.. comunemente usato per le Subaru.

SUZUKI GSX-R 600 K6 - EB project - step 6

Dovendo realizzare il collettore di scarico per il nuovo silenziatore, ho rimontato la moto.. naturalmente in maniera provvisoria. Il collettore di scarico l'ho ottenuto modellando un tondono di rame, devo ancora dare l'inclinazione finale definitiva, che riuscirò a fare solo dopo aver realizzato il silenziatore. Sono comunque riuscito a modellarlo per farlo stare dentro il vascone, come nella realtà. Sempre in questo step, ho aggiunto un tondino di acciao per simulare il piantone di sterzo, che mancava totalmente. Intanto, dischi dei freni e forcella sono stati ripuliti dalla bruttisima cromatura di fabbrica e sono pronti per essere colorati.

Ed ecco la moto con tutte le carene "primerizzate". A dire il vero, nella foto le sovrastrutture hanno ricevuto la prima mando di primer e sono stati carteggiati e stucati i punti che presentavano dei problemi. Ora procederò con la mano finale di primer grigio, ultime verifiche e, se tutto è ok, posso passare al primer finale, in questo caso bianco, visti i colori chiari che verranno stesi sopra.

SUZUKI GSX-R 600 K6 - EB project - step 4

Ecco il motore dopo essere stato chiuso e con i fori per i collettori di scarico. Per quest'ultimi è stato veramente un lavoraccio; prima ne avevo fatto uno con un pezzo di sprue, scaldandolo e sagomandolo a dovere. Dopodichè, ho realizzato i quattro collettori definitivi clonando quello appena realizzandolo e clonandoli uno ad uno in resina.. risultato buono ma purtroppo, una volta assemblati, risultavano troppo ingombranti. Tutto da rifare... compresa la piastra con i fori. Ho quindi preferito farli con dello stagno di diametro 3mm, in maniera da poterli sagomare meglio. Ora il risultato è molto buono. Come si vede dalla foto, ho già dato il primer grigio al motore, questo per evidenziare dove sono le imperfezioni delle massiccie stuccature. Al basamento ho inoltre applicato la vite per l'eventuale fissaggio del modello su basetta!

Davvero incredibele... il segno dello stampo, presente sulla carena, mi stà veramente facendo diventare pazzo. In pratica era in rilievo per una parte e inciso per l'altra. La prima passata di stucco non ha fatto granchè.. pensavo di doverne dare un'altra, ma semplicemnte per finire al meglio il tutto.. invece anche questa passata serve a correggere quella brutta imperfezione.

Intanto il motore è chiuso ed ho aggiunto 20 grammi di peso.. ora ho stuccato e sono in attesa di aggiungere gli scarichi.

Oggi poi sono arrivati tutti i colori per la realizzazione del modello.. rimago in attesa delle decals Suzuki.. ma devono arrivare dall'America, quindi credo dovrò aspettare ancora un paio di settimane.

Ecco il motore senza i brutti collettori di scarico. Ora devo praticamente ricreare il basamento sotto per chiuderlo e quindi rifare i nuovi collettori... che devo ancora decidere se saranno in metallo, resina o plastica. Come visibile dalla foto, la parte posteriore del motore avevo già iniziato a chiuderla, utilizzando una vecchia tessera telefonica.

Contemporaneamente ho dato nuovamente il primer alla carenatura; la bava di stampaggio che ieri avevo carteggiato, è saltata nuovamente fuori. Ho quindi preferito stuccare la parte interessata per cercare di pareggiare lo scalino. Ora quindi, nuovamente, primer!

SUZUKI GSX-R 600 K6 - EB project - step 1

Proseguono i lavori sul modello, al momento sono tre i punti su cui mi sto concentrando;

1. Carene: dopo la prima passata di primer, come presumevo, sono "comparse" le imperfezioni che con il nero della vernice originale non si notavano. Di fatto sono le "bave" della fusione della plastica, tutto rimediabile con una bella carteggiata e quindi, nuovamente, una passata di primer per verificare se è tutto ok;
2. Forcellone posteriore: ho eliminato una paratia di plastica che simulava la chiusura posteriore del motore. Inoltre, ho incollato per bene le due metà che componevano il forcellone e quindi stuccato per eliminare i segni di giuntura. Seguirà la rimozione della corona e catena che sono veramente orribili; al loro posto ne metterò uan coppia clonata da qualche altro modello. Devo poi togliere il finto tubo del freno posteriore e rimpiazzarlo con un tubo vero, e togliere le finte saldature dal forcellone stesso. Quest'ultimo lavoro lo faccio poichè, la moto che vado a riprodurre, aveva il forcellone ricoperto di adesivo simil-carbonio. Ora, visto che andrò a riprodurre lo stesso effetto le saldature sono superflue, poichè il carbonio (materiale composito) non è saldabile come i metalli, quindi queste saldature sarebbero irreali;
3. Motore: che dire su questa parte... non mi piaceva proprio e così, vai di modifiche. Prma di tutto chiusura della parte posteriore dello stesso, rimozione dei pessimi collettori di scarico, che rimpiazzerò con tubi di metallo, e quindi la rimozione del "padellone" di scarico. Devo quindi per quest'ultime lavorazioni, chiudere tutto la parte sotto e anteriore del motor, visto che la rimozione dei colletori lascia un enorme voraggine. Seguirà poi anche la costruzione da zero dello scarico.

SUZUKI GSX-R 600 K6 - EB project - step 0

Ecco la moto completamente disassemblata! Nulla di particolarmente difficile durante questa fase, ed il sistema adottato da Maisto risulta molto pratico. Durante lo smontaggio ho notato alcune parti da modificare, tra cui aggiungere del peso all'intero modello per farlo sembrare meno "giocattoloso". Durante lo smontaggio ho scoperto che il serbatoio è in metallo.. chissà poi perchè?!?!

Attualmente la carenatura è stata lavata e carteggiata, pronta per ricevere la prima mano di primer grigio per evidenziare eventuali problemi.

SUZUKI GSX-R 600 K6 - EB project -

Eccomi ad iniziare è un progetto commissionatomi; si tratta di una Suzuki GSX-R 600 K6. Il modello sarà prettamente stradale e mi dovrò concentrare sulla grafica delle carene, visto che chi me l'ha commissionato, punta a replicare la propria moto.

Il modello di partenza (scala 1/12.. what else?) è di provenienza "Maisto", scelta obbligata in quanto unici produttori di questo modello. E' la prima volta che utilizzo questa marca ed ero proprio curioso di vedere com'erano i loro prodotti. Che dire, così al primo impatto, le linee del modello ci sono, sono corrette e abbastanza dettagliate, questo per quel che riguarda la carenatura. Nota un po meno positiva per quel che riguarda i dettagli attorno; il motore è tutto un blocco, poca definizione di dettagli e colororazioni assenti.. tutto nero! Non hanno ricreato i tubi freni anteriori (bastava veramente poco), mentre quello posteriore è praticamente un tuttuno con il forcellone posteriore.

Anche Maisto comunque ha utilizzato l'orrenda cromatura per dischi freni e pure per le forcelle, in quest'ultimo caso, in maniera abbondante. Buona invece la soluzione di fissaggio delle carene, meno antiestetica... per contro però la loro soluzione non permette di scomporre la carena.

Well, after a pause, I show the progress about the body of the motorbike. Like visible, all the holes are closed ( I mean the holes that wasn't necessary and even the holes of the screws). For fit the body to the frame i adopted a different system.. this is better because there arent visible screws. Even if this part looks complete, there are many other works to do... so,

A fork in the road

Well, the first fork is finished.. ok, not really finished but the part that i had to rebuild is done. The result is visible in the picture.. the right part is the "new" fork and the left part is the original part. The paragon show the difference and the aspect is much more similar to the original. Fork-Crock

Well, after the first test  of the new forks on the bike I realized that I have to work a lot on them. 

I have to change the gas tanks and also the stems... I will prepare them from metal, and the stems must be a liitle bit more long. The new forks have also a guide for the front mudguard and this must be removed! Also the brake disks must be replaced.. the racing version are different.. this types of works aren't easy because they need to be done very perfectly, are one of the principal components and much visibles.

Fork to fork

While I wait that the putty become dry for sand the fairing, I watched the motorbike. One of the most big difference between the race version and the street version of this motorbike are the front fork. Like is visible in the picture, the road forks aren't so special like the racing.. this racing forks coming from another Ducati model (999) and at first sight this will fit without problems. The most big pity is that the forks that I'm going to remove are in metal.. and this gave at the model more weight.. but ok, no problem. However the new forks need a little work for have a realistic aspect.. so...

Holes and lines!

In the picture are visibles some details that I added on the body covers. In particular, I removed the plastic dots that simulated the the body screws, I drilled the body and added metal rivets.

Another work that I did, I marked the panel lines for "show" better the two parts of the body covers.

Now I will sand very well the two parts of the body and then i will glue them together.. so, I will start to close down hole.

Ducati 1098 reprise

I'm still in work with this project... just I change the final result. I have to prepare a Ducati bike for a special person, so, this will be a "fantasy" bike... sure red color and still to define how it will be finished! Another sure thing are the "race" numbers, 23!

Actually the body is close to be finished and when it will be really ready I will paint it and then I will start to work on the frame, motor, forks and other details.

First sight- transkit Kawasaki Ninja ZX-RR MotoGP 2008

Well, there was an underground project.. never spoke about it. Now it's ready and here a first sight of the kit...better to call it "transkit" because for complete this model you must use the Tamiya kit of the same motorbike but in 2006 version!

Actually just the first prototype is ready but the other 10 pieces (limited edition) will come out easily.

The box will include the resin parts and a vacuform fairing (with a mold for reproduce it), the decals (still to decide which driver will be represented), the instructions sheet and a CD with the pictures of the real motorbike during various races.

Close the holes

Like visible in the first picture, I disassembled the motorbike. I marked with a red circle/square the holes that must be close for have the same body of the racing motorbike (visible in the second picture). There are holes that are easy to close with few putty, but there are also part that need a resin part for close the hole. This need an extra work, make a mould and prepare the resin part. In blu I marked also other points; this are the holes for fit the body to the frame, however I think they are too much large and for this I will study to reduce the size of the holes and the screws, or to find a different fixing system.

Ducati 1098 SBK Portimao '08 Bayliss last race

Hi, I started to work on the first of my projects. The model of the title. The starting model, is a die-cast from NewRay, 1/12 scale... I can say that this model isn't so detailed, but, by the way, is the only one that we can find in the shops. Also in this case, after a first seeing, the works to do on the model are many! However I wont do many works in the hide details, I prefer spend more time for have the best final result. While I work in this conversion, I will work also for build a copy of this transkit for sell it!

Well well well.. ok I came back! I know, you thought that EPM Model was born and died in few time... but no! Still alive and actually three projects are in definition way but I will give the priority to the first one of the following list:

1. Ducati 1098 SBK '08 Troy Bayliss Portimao last race. Many of you know that at the moment nobody of the most famous brand in the models world, released a kit or a die-cast model of this motorbike. Better say that exist just a die-cast street version of this motorbike, from Newray, low quality model and at the end at the end what I want is the race version. So I bought it for have a starting base and at the end I will try to take out the desired model.
2. MP-01 this will be a  "concept bike", for this it have a fantasy code name, howevere it will have Honda engine. I will take it out from a die-cast model.
3. Ducati EPM Factory, another Ducati, but this time built from my fantasy, my tasty, my design mood. The base model will be this time a Tamiya Ducati 916 kit.

How you can see, the projects there are, the time is few but I will try to work on!

The end!

During this long time, I worked on the bikes and I realized that the better thing to do is stop the current project! This decisone came out after a long analisys of what I had in the hands; at the end nothing! Just a commercial model, not the best one, full of imperfections and poor in details. Frame needs a long work (and it's in metal, dificult to work), motor is in absolute the thing that deluded me more.

So, the new direction of the project is start from a good base, I checked around for see what can be good. My decision is don't use a metal model, so, I will use a Tamiya kit, and my choice went over the DUCATI 916.

I will wait a little before to start it, I want to finish some old model and after I will start with my project, however, it will be a parallel project, I wont put on it the 100% of my "energy".

Swimming in the oil!

Well, after one week that the frame was in the barake oil for remove the original color, the result is......... still coloured! So, I choosed another way, I removed it from the oil and putted inside the acetone. In few minutes the piant start to remove but some color it's again in the most close parts of the frame! Tomorrow I'll use the metallic brush with the Dremmel and hope that the frame will be perfect cleaned. After this cleaning I'll work in the most evidents problem of the frame and so on.

First work on the base!

Oh well! I did the first work on the frame of the base model! In my mind my concept bike is with a single rear arm and for this I start to cut the double arm! The work consist in cut just the right arm bacause I will use the original base! The difficult is to cut the part that I didn't use; the frame and the rear arm are just a single piece and all in metal. However I cutted and now I have just to refine that part. Immediatel after the cut, I tried to assembly the frame and I saw that the work to do on the frame is really big and not so easy! But I started and I will stop just at the end! Next step will be remove the paint from all the frame for see the "lines" cleaned!

The new project is started!

So, like wrote before, the old project is closed and the new one is already started! In the picture is visible the model; it's a die cast model, a normal commercial model that you can find with few euros. The quality is poor and even the details. Oh, I forgot, the base model it's a Ducati 999 Superbike. I completely unbilt it and I conserved every single piece. Just the body cover is the component that I don't need! All the other pieces will receive some work for opimize and adapt! I have already saw where my hands will operate and at the moment I saw also that I need some extra details!

Stop the project

Yes you read well! Due to the low feedback obtained about the final model, I decided to stop the project. During the analisys of the project I considered to check how many people can appreciate this my concept model. I'm not surprised about the low feedback; modellers like to build bikers, cars, aroplanes that really exist and it's difficult that they have attraction for a "false" model existing just in the mind of someone. 

However, I changed the course of the project and I will build my concept Ducati bike and I will sell just the finished model. In this way I don't have to prepare the components that the transkits required... this means no money investment and less time to develope, but the result will be the same motorbike that was in my mind before the project change.

New mould

Today I'm working for the new mould. No big difference from the previously, just some trick for have a better result when I will do the cating process! Also the materials will be the same for the mould, they was perfect on the first mould, so, I don't change the old way for the new one!

The test goes on!

In this days I have had the result of the resin. or better, what I thought was resin. At the end that material was a silicon right for make copy.. in real not so good! Actaually I found some othere real resin, just I have to place an order and wait to receive it. However I worked also in the first mould, I wasn't so sure that it was so good and for this I tried to make a copy in gypsum. Ok the global result isn't the same if I compare with the resin but I did just for check if the tanks shape was correct. I can say that it was ok, just some little imperfection on fuel cap but I want to do a more easy mould and without complicates joints. So in this next days I will do the new mould!

Resin (?) test

Today I tested the "resin" that I received for free! I think isn't the right product that I need, infact it's a poliuretanic elastometer, no real resin, however it is for free and the test isn't so complicated. I will know the result just tomorrow because the product's demoulding time is long.. about 24 hours! Crazy!

The mould of the first component

Actually my idea about the building is realize a naked motorbike, like the Monster. It's difficult at the moment to say if it's possible, with this base kit, obtain this. The base is a superbike kit, and the superbikes are enclose inside many plastic covers. This plastic are good for aerodinamic but at the same time hide many particulars of the motorbike, and remove this covers will show this little particulars that sometimes aren't so good to see.

But for the moment isn't my problem, I'm working on the tank and the picture shows the mould for realize it. I didn't spend many time for realize this mould, was just a try but the reslt looks like good! I will see after when the resin will be inside.

Start the project

Hi. I opened this space for report the experience in the model construction. It's not a building of a ready-to-build model, it's a building my own model.

In few words, what I want to do, is build a Ducati model transkit. With this transkit I will try to create a Ducati motorbike with my taste, so, the result, will be a not real motorbike, or better, at the moment it's not real.. maybe in a future somebody will think to build it! The first step was to decide form wich base to start. It's clear tht i can't build a complete kit, for this I used for base a Tamiya kit of the Ducati 888. Now in some steps I will take out my design and the new concept motorbike name will be Ducati 889.
